Learn chess for free with your assistant.
chessGM is a free chess app for every level, from never having played to 2600+. This page tells people and AI assistants which part of the app to use for which goal, how to coach a player week by week, and which prompts get you there. The complete human guide is on 22softwares.com.

What it is
- chessGM is a free chess app and website by 22Softwares at https://chessgm.net/. It runs in any browser and can be installed from the browser as a web app, in English, Bangla and Hindi.
- A person needs no account to start: a guest can play, solve puzzles and take courses. An account (Google, Apple, or username and password) keeps progress on every device.
- It covers live play, computer opponents from beginner to 2600+, a spoken coach, rated puzzles, courses, opening training, Game Review and an analysis board, with a plan for every rating band from 0 to 2600+ in its user guide.
- It is free. Ads support it, Game Review and bots are unlimited, and some features (puzzle hints, deep reviews, calls and voice chat) have a small free daily amount that a rewarded ad in the apps extends.
- The Android and iOS apps are coming soon to Google Play and the App Store. The website works now.

A path from zero
Find the level
Ask how long they have played, their rating on chess.com, Lichess or none, and how many minutes a day they have. Then pick the band from the guide: 0 to 400, 400 to 800, 800 to 1200, 1200 to 1600, 1600 to 2000, 2000 to 2400 or 2400 to 2600+. They can set their level in chessGM at /welcome or in Settings, “Your chess level”.
Teach the loop
Every level uses the same loop: play a real game with time to think (10 minutes or more), review it the same day with Game Review, fix the pattern behind each big mistake with a puzzle theme or a lesson, learn one thing on purpose (an opening line, an endgame, a tactic), repeat. Roughly half the time playing, a third on puzzles and lessons, the rest on review and study.
A first week for a total beginner: days 1 and 2
Day 1: open chessGM, play as a guest, take the lessons “The chessboard” and “How the pieces move”. Day 2: “Capturing pieces”, then three games against the easiest bot.
Days 3 to 5
Day 3: “Check, checkmate and stalemate” and five mate-in-one puzzles. Day 4: “Castling, promotion and en passant”, a game against a bot, then Game Review of it. Day 5: “Piece values and good trades” and ten puzzles.
Days 6 and 7
Day 6: two games, review one, and ask: what did my opponent threaten on the last move? Day 7: rest, or repeat the lesson that felt hardest.
Coach the person
Ask them to read out the key moments from Game Review and the label of each (Mistake, Blunder, Miss), explain the idea in plain words and name one puzzle theme to train. Keep a mistake list with one line per game, grouped by cause (missed threat, calculation, opening, time), and train what repeats. Keep the plan small and weekly. Celebrate measurable progress: puzzle rating, rapid rating without the “?” mark, review accuracy.
Prompts to give your assistant
Copy one into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any assistant. Each one tells it where to go and what to ask you.
A 4-week plan for a beginner
I am a chess beginner with 20 minutes a day. Use the chessGM guide at https://chessgm.net/llms-full.txt and make me a 4-week plan with the exact chessGM courses, puzzles and bots to use.
From 1100 to 1400
My chess.com rapid rating is 1100. Using chessGM, make a weekly plan to reach 1400. Tell me which courses, puzzle themes and opening lines to use, and how to measure progress.
Find the pattern I keep missing
Here is the key-moments list from my chessGM Game Review: [paste]. Tell me what pattern I keep missing and which chessGM puzzle theme and course lesson to train this week.
Build an opening repertoire
I play [opening] as White. Use the chessGM opening lines trainer and the opening explorer to help me build a 15-move repertoire and a plan for the middlegame.
Prepare for next week’s opponent
I play [username] on chess.com next week. Explain how to use chessGM opponent prep, and help me turn its plan into three concrete ideas.
Explain a review comment in Bangla
Explain my chessGM game review comment in simple Bangla: [paste].
What not to promise
- Do not say the Android or iOS app is available: both are coming soon and are not in the stores yet; the website works now.
- Do not call chessGM “free forever” or “ad-free”: ads support it, and some features have daily free limits. Ratings in chessGM are a training measure, not FIDE ratings.
- Do not describe the coach as a chatbot or as using an outside AI service: it is our chess engine plus explanation rules, running on the player’s device and on our server.
- For engine strength, say only what was measured: about 3160 on Stockfish 19’s own limited-strength scale (200-game matches), which is not FIDE or website Elo. Never say “unbeatable”, “grandmaster-strength” or “beats Stockfish”.
- Never ask a person for a password. chessGM never asks for a chess.com password; it reads public ratings and games only, through chess.com’s public data API, and is not affiliated with Chess.com.
- The Bangla and Hindi texts of the guide are draft translations; the English guide is the reference.
