Climbing the computer bots on chess.com? Open Learn, Beat the chess.com bots. It is a ladder from about 250 up to 3200: one rung per well-known bot, with a guide to each.

The chess.com bots ladder

What each rung gives you

  • How the bot plays and what beats it.
  • A practice partner on chessGM of the same strength and style, to train before you try the real one.
  • Openings to use against it, linked to the opening courses.
  • Your own games against it: paste a game to get a review and puzzles from your mistakes.

How to use it

  1. Find the rung just above where you are stuck.
  2. Read the guide and play the practice partner two or three times.
  3. Go to chess.com and try the bot. Paste the game back into chessGM to review it.

chessGM never uses chess.com’s pictures or text and never asks for your chess.com password. Only public games are read. chessGM is not affiliated with Chess.com; bot names and ratings are theirs.

Tip: a 1600 bot is not a 1600 human. Bots play unusually and fall for traps. Learn their weaknesses, then use the same lessons against people.
